Salad Bowl Project

As a gardener you know the joys and benefits of watching something grow, nurturing and encouraging that little sprout to thrive and flourish. Most gardeners are able to tend their plants in outdoor settings with few restrictions. For others those restrictions can be quite extensive. Poor health, physical limitations and housing circumstances can have a tremendous influence on what a gardener would like to do and what she or he can do.

Friends of the Garden and Flambeau River Community Growing Center want to become your partners. Together we can return the joy of gardening – as well as the unmatched flavor of fresh greens – to someone you know. That person may be elderly, handicapped or not have access to a place to plant.

Through a grant from Thrivent Financial all materials – bowl, soil and plants – will be provided for you to assemble. After you have planted the miniature and mobile garden, the final step is for you to present the Salad Bowl to a relative or friend of yours. A living, (almost) endless salad bowl is your way of sharing the pleasures of gardening and rekindling the joy of watching plants respond to a bit of TLC.

Join us on Saturday, May 20th, 10:00 a.m. at Flambeau River Community Growing Center, 270 First Avenue North, Park Falls, to make your Salad Bowl.

Please reserve your bowl by contacting: Barb at bboness@centurytel.net, 715-769-3788 or Kathy at sksitte@charter.net, 762-3003.
